ECONOMIC PROFILE

The scenic region of the Blayney Shire is located 3 ½ hours from Sydney and Canberra. Blayney is a unique regional business community featuring many commercial and industrial opportunities throughout the main town of Blayney and the historical villages of Barry, Carcoar, Lyndhurst, Mandurama, Millthorpe, Neville and Newbridge.

KEY SECTORS

Blayney’s economy is considered diverse for a rural area. Key sectors include mining, manufacturing, agriculture, construction, education and training.

 

The Blayney Shire offers many services and is in close proximity to the two major city centres of Bathurst and Orange.

 

Blayney has a rail terminal and direct road access to Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The region supplies fully serviced facilities and strategically located industrial land that is accessible to the Mid-Western Highway and the Great Western Highway.

MAJOR EMPLOYERS

The industrial and business sector in the Blayney Shire is well established and hosts a number of large companies including Blayney SeaLink (a major cold storage operation), Linfox, Nestlè, Newcrest Mining Ltd and Australian Native Landscapes, Blayney Shire Council and Community Health.

 

There are a number of niche industry sectors in Blayney, including larger consumer goods and rural retailers, construction, metal fabrication, car mechanics and refrigerated warehousing.

 

Blayney Shire also has one of the most advanced livestock facilities in Australia. The Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange (CTLX) at Carcoar is one of the largest in NSW catering for all stock exchanges across this region of NSW. CTLX provides the Central Tablelands Region with a state-of-the-art livestock auction facility.

IDENTIFIED OPPORTUNITIES

Opportunities for future economic development include:

  • -Mining – Blayney is attractive to companies in the mining sector anchored by the Newcrest mining development and new prospects in Kings Plains.
  • -Transport and Warehousing – an existing intermodal terminal with direct import/export rail link to Sydney Ports, serviced industrial land, existing cold storage export facilities and its strategic location make Blayney Shire a great place for transport logistics and warehousing operations.
  • -Food Manufacturing – Blayney Shire is the ideal location to develop the latest in food processing facilities directly aimed at exporting food to international markets. Nestlè is expanding its Purina factory to incorporate a greater demand in dog food supplies.
  • -Transport – Blayney is the ideal location for transport companies relocating to cover access to other States and be accessible to Sydney and Parkes inland rail.
